Viticulture
Motto: Only carefully cultivated vines with good condition can withstand pathogens, pests and weather conditions.
“the grapes need to see the sun”
60% of the 7.9-hectare estate are white and 40% are blue grape varieties. The wide range of varieties gives the winemaker the opportunity, for higher quality, to make exciting and sometimes astonishing Cuvée wines. In addition to the world varieties – Yellow Muscat, Müller-Thurgau, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon – there are also the Hungaricums and the Carpathian Basin varieties such as – Irsai Oliver, Zöldveltelini, Olaszrizling, Kékfrankos.
Vine training systems:
The old Zöldveltelini 3.5m x 1.2m row and stem spacing, umbrella training system.
New plantings / after 2004 / 2.5m × 0.9m row and stem spacing, unilateral Guyot training system.
Pruning the grapes is done with great care. The grapes “need to see the sun,” their foliage needs to be healthy, airy, because that’s the only way we can harvest golden-yellow bunches from it. The amount of grapes is consciously controlled by pruning – if necessary by “green harvesting”- according to the variety, the vintage and the quality of the wine expected. All operations are for quality viticulture and quality winemaking. Harvesting is always started at the most optimal ripening stage of the grapes. The ripe bunches are taken in small harvest crates to get into the winery without breaking.
Soil, in which the vines are rooted contains loess, clayey, slightly calcareous at Kishegy and loess base with brown topsoil at Kokashegy and the magnificent Lake Balaton is nearby. This Mediterranean environment is a guarantee of high quality. The vine spacing is covered with carefully mowed (mulched) natural weed flora, which provides a great “hiding place” for insects and predatory mites, which are necessary for environmentally friendly cultivation. During the growing season, plant protection work can be carried out safely and on time with environmentally friendly technology. At harvest, carrying grapes out from mulched rows is not an insurmountable task.

Very high quality wine, both white and red, and a fantastic lunch Hungarian “kalte platte”. Beautiful place!

The wines of József Pócz, like the winemaker himself: friendly, talkative, honest, heartwarming. Talking on the terrace about wine and life… The feeling is priceless, “for others there is a mastercard” 🙂

Beautiful terrace with an amazing view. The owner was lovely and the wines were delicious and very reasonably priced!

It was a great and unforgettable evening in a fantastic environment, with panoramic views, wonderful wines, gastronomic trinkets! I recommend it to anyone who wants to relax and forget about everyday life, you will succeed here!
